The president of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, has just received a very amicable governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, at his residence in Gorki, near Moscow. “I know you’ll soon be leaving your post,” Medvedev told the former actor. “If you had Russian citizenship, you might have a job here. Right now, Moscow lacks a mayor …” Indeed, Yuri Luzhkov has been dismissed by the Kremlin.
It was perhaps a joke, but Mr. Medvedev has opened up a previously closed horizon. By ignoring borders, we could make some grand exchanges. Imagine, for example, Nicolas Sarkozy at the White House, master of the world.
