With the Fat Lady about to sing, the excuses for why John McCain’s campaign has sunk like a stone continue to fly fast and furious.
I’ve been collecting the ripest of these excuses over at Kiko’s House in a daily feature titled “McCain-Palin Trainwreck Excuse du Jour.” Here are synopses and links to the most recent entries:
McCain’s “strategy” of throwing everything against the wall and hoping that something will stick hasn’t worked.
The campaign couldn’t overcome the candidates themselves.
Sarah Palin’s staff are a bunch of turncoats.
Negroes favor big government and that’s why they don’t like the GOP.
McCain recycled the wrong message.
Palin is so smart that she can’t keep her stories straight.
Roundups of previous excuses are here and here and include:
It’s those uppity Negroes getting all tribal; McCain just can’t get any traction with the Bill Ayers story; McCain has an appalling lack of judgment; it’s all about the structure of his campaign; it’s the twin curses of George Bush and the economy; McCain has been a failure for a lot longer than this campaign; Palin can’t be controlled; leading Republicans are turning on McCain; Obama is getting off easy because he’s black; McCain’s campaign advisers are a disaster; McCain is not a true conservative; GOP class warfare has cost him dearly; and McCain just isn’t comfortable playing the bad guy.
