Fox News’ Roger Ailes’ Controversial Speech: You Decide
This speech by Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes at the annual Radio and Television News Directors Association dinner is being said to have been the "last straw" for some Democrats, leading them to nix the Demmies first debate on Fox. My view: it just looks like he did some weak topical jokes. And the joke about Obama seems a joke poking fun at Bush more than Obama. But YOU … [Read more...] about Fox News’ Roger Ailes’ Controversial Speech: You Decide

Darth VaderMcCain
This column at the L.A. Times has to be taken with a grain of salt, but..., when treated like that, it's a good, entertaining read.
The sad reality is that John McCain seems to have surrendered to the establishment. The establishment he once criticized and even downright attacked. He's trying to appeal to 'Christian Right', the same Christian Right whose influence he once … [Read more...] about Darth VaderMcCain

The Padilla Videotape & The President’s Dog
I have blogged frequently about the mess that the Bush administration has made of prosecuting alleged terrorists, a mere handful of whom have come to trial while the rest rot . . . well, you know all about that. But in a new low in the prosecution of the War on Terror, an important videotape of the final interrogation of Jose Padilla has gone missing. I think that there … [Read more...] about The Padilla Videotape & The President’s Dog
Europe Fighting Global Warming – Chirac to Retire
The E.U. has decided to fight global warming more aggressively and, of course, effectively. Although there is a lot of debate going in America about whether or not global warming is caused or significantly increased by human activity, I have to say that such a debate is virtually non-existent in Europe. The far, far majority of Europeans believe that human activity does … [Read more...] about Europe Fighting Global Warming – Chirac to Retire

Osama Bin Laden Turns The Big Five-O
Are you surprised that Osama bin Laden will be celebrating another birthday today, or whatever charismatic fugitive terrorist masterminds with weak kidneys and gadzillion dollar rewards on their heads do when they're thousands of miles from the nearest Chuck E. Cheese's? I don't see OBL and his bodyguards gathering around a cake with 50 candles, but the bearded one does seem … [Read more...] about Osama Bin Laden Turns The Big Five-O
The Democrats’ Big Problem
The split in the Democratic Party between those who want funding cut off ASAP and those who seek to rein-in or end the war in other ways clearly has the potential to spell "victory" -- for the GOP in 2008 if it gets way out of hand. Watch this You Tube of Appropriations Chairman Democrat David Obey trying to explain to military mom Tina Richards (the video shot by the … [Read more...] about The Democrats’ Big Problem

Our famous linkfest offering you a buffet of varying ideas and posts from all over the blogo-you-know-what. Links do not necessarily express the viewpoint of TMV. Appeals Court Nixes Washington D.C.’s Home Gun Ban
A federal appeals court has turned thumbs down on a Washington D.C. anti-gun law that is the kind of law that even many advocates of gun control find extreme:A federal appellate panel today struck down parts of the District's gun law as unconstitutional, ruling that the city cannot bar people from keeping firearms in their homes. The decision was a victory for six D.C. … [Read more...] about Appeals Court Nixes Washington D.C.’s Home Gun Ban

Thanks For Your Patience!
TMV still is not "complete." We have our barebones template up, but you'll start to see some changes in coming weeks. Also: this has been a somewhat tempestuous time for some of TMV's writers, including yours truly. In my case, I've had a bunch of emergencies and have driven HUGE distances the past four weeks -- but have still posted here. Things are already returning to … [Read more...] about Thanks For Your Patience!
Inching towards collaboration
From The Wall Street Journal A New Seating Chart Sens. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut and Susan Collins of Maine are mixing it up at the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee. For future hearings, Democrats and Republicans won’t sit on opposite sides of the dais but rather, next to each other — alternating Democrat, Republican, Democrat, Republican … [Read more...] about Inching towards collaboration

The Trilogy of Stan
Once again, if you really don't like this little exercise on the fringes of "who cares?" -- please, skip over this post. On the other hand, if you're one of those who (for whatever inexplicable reason) finds the whole thing just as bizarre and intriguing as I do, read on ... because Stan has broken his silence. … [Read more...] about The Trilogy of Stan
The Lawlessness of The Age of Bush
The debate last year over renewal of the USA Patriot Act was a rare instance in which Congress – or at least some members – pushed back against the imperial Bush presidency and successfully fought to include some safeguards on the powers of the FBI, among other federal agencies. I don’t shock easily these days. Six-plus years of George Bush will do that. But I was … [Read more...] about The Lawlessness of The Age of Bush
