Just this morning I received a jarring reminder of just how fast time flies and the years slip away from us. It was 33 years ago this month that The Ramones’ self titled debut album scratched and clawed its way up near the top of the charts and shook the fledgling era of evolving rock and roll to its roots. I spent the majority of my time listening to what’s now considered classic rock – Pink Floyd, Zepplin, The Who, Rolling Stones… but when I first caught wind of the tall, lanky, almost painfully unjointed Joey Ramone, it took my breath away. I wasn’t sure how I felt about punk rock as compared to some of the traditional rockers I followed, but I knew something exciting was happening. The Ramones helped pave the way many more groups to follow in their wake and shake things up.
Here’s a look back at the insanity, and one of their raucous music videos for the tune, “I Wanna Be Sedated.” Feel the anarchy.
