Is it time for the U.S. to drop its geostrategic calculations and back Bahrainis in their quest for freedom? For Sotal Iraq, columnist Hassan al-Ansaari honors democracy activist Maryam Alkhawaja for challenging Hillary Clinton and writes that it is time for the Obama Administration to drop its double standards and stand by the people of Bahrain.
For Sotal Iraq (the Voice of Iraq), Hassan al-Ansaari writes in part:
To Mrs. Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State for the Nation of Freedom:
Do you work to guarantee the freedom of all peoples and protect human dignity as you claim? Or are you a partner in what is happening in Bahrain, working to continue the repression, subjugation, torture and detention? I’m sure that those in the administration of your State Department see the tragic stories of human rights violations and the reckless entering of homes and houses of worship on the Internet. But we haven’t heard any objections, protests or condemnations from you. It’s as if the events of September 11 happened under your auspices!
Do the Bahraini people have the right to resort to a foreign party other than you [America] for help in reclaiming their dignity and freedom? If your support waivers, the price will be heavy! What do you intend to do, Mrs. Clinton?”
