Adding to the plethora of speculation about possible names for the Democratic Vice Presidential spot, is word that top Obama campaign officials are being sent from Denver (where they are preparing for next week’s convention) to Indianapolis for what is called a ‘major campaign event’ on Saturday.
This has led to speculation that Evan Bayh, the Democratic Senator from the state, could be a contender for the number-two spot on the ticket. Certainly he would make a good choice, but the story has been denied by the Obama camp.
In addition the stories seemed to suggest that the event would take place in Indianapolis when Senator Bayh is in fact from the small industrial town of Terre Haute. One would think that if they were going to make the announcement in Indiana that they would do so in such a photo-opportunity-rich environment (not only is it a small town, but it has been in the midst of an economic decline which would offer a spot to attack Bush/McCain)
