On the Failed Underwear Bomber

He failed, it took place and this shows that the United States won’t be safe until Obama is out of office according to some. An interesting roundup… that shows again how the terrorism issue has become a huge political football.

Puhleez. O has shown he is pragmatic about terrorists, and we don't need silly talk about any one person being in or out of office influencing the terrorists. Unfortunately, as damav, pointed out it is whack-a-mole for now. O can do it.

Many on both wings seem to be acting intentionally dense about this. Napolitano has made it clear she meant the system worked well after the bomber set himself on fire, not before. Many on the right are misrepresenting what she said as reflected in the Village Voice editorial.

On the other hand, what Napolitano DID say was stupid and patronizing. I'm pretty sure most of us would like her to focus on stopping bombers before they actually get on the plane and try to detonate the bomb. My guess is she was trying to put a reassuring spin on things but came across looking like Michael Brown.

As far as Obama's role in all this, he doesn't appear to have one.

I hope you aren't frightened because he is letting people do their job. That's what we pay them for. What do you want him to say? That we should all wait and let the people do their jobs?

I am not frightened, I don't know where you're getting that.

It's fine to let people do their job as long as you're not also having them do your job.

Fake security under Bush, fake security under Obama. Just political correctness.

As is with all political footballs, there is a degree of truth that must be dealt with. The nasty’s got a bomb on an a US Flagged aircraft. The bomb failed due to the courage of a passenger and the crude technical design of the bomb. However they did get passed security. IMO there is absolutely no need to panic, blame political adversaries, or, make air travel even more difficult for the secular. Just start looking for this type of bomb in addition to what we are doing now and hassle Muslim passengers more. In fact, make it an intolerable for a Muslim to fly on a non-Muslim owned airline.

This last event is not indicative of a really a serious problem.

It is completely unfair to suggest that this is Barack Obama's fault.
Our security was a joke prior to 9/11. It only got better AFTER 9/11.
Our security after 9/11 still had holes in it. It will only get better AFTER this latest attempt.

The terrorists will never stop finding weak spots in our defenses, just as we look for week spots in theirs.
We try our best to plug the holes before an attack, but we cannot always succeed. Bush did well in preventing attacks. I believe Obama has adequately picked up the torch on it as well. He'll do fine too.
