Sarah Palin’s Image Management is About to Get Harder

SarahPalinJW_art_400_20080829123336.jpg

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s image problems are about to get even harder. She is about to the pitchforked into the national headlines again due to an up and coming article in Vanity Fair that will contain an interview with Levi Johnston where he’ll give his version of what it was like to see Palin behind the scenes at home.

His version isn’t pretty: he paints a portrait of a Palin who thinks she was the one running for President, who felt the Governor’s job was too hard, who wanted to leave the Gov seat to write a book and make big bucks — all within a household where the kids allegedly fended for themselves to cook their own meals, a household where the word “divorce” surfaced frequently.

And the picture he paints will most assuredly give ammunition to Palin’s many critics outside of and inside of her party (her rivals for the 2012 nomination will be grinning), lead to her angry response dismissing it as the word for a disgruntled former almost-family member, and cause her defenders to label it a lie and Vanity Fair as being out to get her.

Just read this Vanity Fair press release for some of the details..

The only question will be: how many jokes will David Letterman get out of this one?

UPDATE: Vanity Fair’s website offers some more details HERE.

It's kind of ridiculous to think that "the picture he paints will most assuredly give ammunition to Palin’s many critics outside of and inside of her party (her rivals for the 2012 nomination will be grinning), lead to her angry response dismissing it as the word for a disgruntled former almost-family member, and cause her defenders to label it a lie and Vanity Fair as being out to get her."

    Are you kidding me?

People are actually going to believe a punk kid who's a nude gay model whose mother is in jail for being a drug dealer over an accomplished business woman who has been mayor and governor and who ran for vice president of the United States?

Come on, get real. The premise of this story is designed to restart a dead smear campaign against Sarah Palin.

It's getting desperate for the left and the elites when a punk kid dirt bag is all they got left to use to smear Sarah Palin.

"Label it a lie?" It already is a lie.

Besides, I don't buy Vanity Fair. I save money by using the store brand toilet paper.

How sad! What reason would Levi Johnaton have to tell lies about Sarah Palin? Palin is the one who has made a career out of lying and throwing anyone who gets in her way to the wolves. She is the one with the reason to lie. Sometimes the very worst people rise to the top because of their charm and ability to get people to follow them (examples are James Jones and Hitler). So just because Sarah Palin was the mayor of an itty bitty town and managed to fool the residents of a small state into voting her into office doesn't mean for a minute that she is accomplished in anything. She is a self-centered, money-grubbing liar who will do anything to further her own agenda.

"Come on, get real. The premise of this story is designed to restart a dead smear campaign against Sarah Palin."

It's not dead among the morally dead or otherwise degenerated. She's a handy hate object, after all.

I'm wondering how many mental patients are going to come over here and try to convince us that this loser kid has any credibility. I hope so. I want to see how many people are as dumb as Levi.

Well, isn't that great. The Moderate, er, Liberal, Voice hears musings from one Levi Johnston in the air, and suggests it is gospel - ergo it will hurt Governor Palin. All the while, Obama DaOne stumbles and fumbles as his approval ratings tanks by the day. My question remains: When will you guys rebrand yourselves as The Liberal Voice. There is nothing "Moderate" about a site that is clearly in tune with The Daily Kos and other paragons of Liberalism.

DLS - Agree that she is an object of derision for many, and they may buy into Levi's story. Levi has an axe to grind, and he has made a name for himself by trashing Palin. He's not credible...spoken as one who is not a fan of Palin myself (for other reasons).

Btw, thanks for taking the time and energy to respond to my long list of questions on activist judges yesterday. Whether we agree, and we did in part, or whether we disagree, and we did in part, the effort and intellect were appreciated.

In answer to the comment above, it gets kind of old whenever anyone on the right or left doesn't like a post that they start on the tired rant about you can't be a moderate site if you don't offer just THEIR viewpoint. In fact, if you check on www.memeorandum.com you'll find a lot of blogs on all sides are linking to this Vanity Fair piece and commenting on it. You also seem to be not noticing our posts by Michael Reagan and some other conservative writers, but it wouldn't make any difference. You don't like the content of this Vanity Fair article and therefore we are like Daily Kos for running this post. However, if you think TMV is like Daily Kos then you need to revisit Kos (we link to Michelle Malkin, Hot Air, Daily Kos and all kinds of sites and have run Guest Voices by writers and bloggers of different viewpoints). Also, if you check the polls you will see that moderates, centrists and independent voters are not monolithic. No poll shows 100 percent agreement. Sorry you don't like us posting things that you don't agree with which automatically makes us a clone of liberal sites you don't like but this is indeed the way we have done it and the way we will continue to do it. Read our description of the site at the top. We try to offer a variety of viewpoints and some readers who aren't into name calling have even sent them to us and we've run them to get another take on issues that may not be in agreement with a post or posts.

I'm jumping on board with Joe on this shiboleth that TMV is a liberal propoganda organ. Today's home page includes:
Mikkel Fishman on the real cost of the Cash for Clunkers program...as well as the first time home buyers program; Joe on Obama's majority negative performance ratings among Independents; Michael Silverstein on economic news that is not good, in spite of the MSM's portrayal of it; and Jazz Shaw's piece on Charlie Rangel (Jazz also did several pieces on his opposition to the "public option" rcently).

What we choose to read, or comment on, is up to us. But, at least we have a choice.

Oh the grace she showed when she tried to calm down those angry crowds screaming for Obama's death. It still amazes me that some people think she has a legitimate political future. Hell, it might be safe to assume that she started the kill Obama craze among the nutties, seeing as how she showed no interest in stopping such horrible sentiments while her boss (why did you pick her McCain?????) did the morally right thing and told his crowds to stop that nonsense. Great leaders lead by example...that’s all I’m going to say to the very small contingent of Palin supporters.

LOL, wonder who she'll want to sue this time. Just Levi, Levi and article writer, Levi and article writer and Vanity Fair? How ridiculous Palinistas are at this point. Even if she were not such a sad spectacle as a politician, she was surely never the saint you make her out to be. I'd be surprised if any governor had a lot of time to cook. Why don't you people look for an up and coming smart politician to support, with a less wacky personality type and entourage? Whatever. She's clearly going to be making the money she wants soon and maybe she'll be satisfied with that. Her followers will clearly follow her over any cliff she chooses.
  • narciso
Actually she drew the crowds and the contempt (back in '76, they went after Ford, not nearly as much as Dole) McCain took a snooze somewhere around the final round. What she predicted about Obama
    came true.
  • jeainnj
And we should believe Levi Johnston because.....?

"thanks for taking the time and energy to respond to my long list of questions "

The time I have for writing is a crap-shoot and I have that time right now -- will visit that thread...

    ...

"she is an object of derision for many"

Malevolent derision and other malevolent behavior, that is -- so-typical lefty hatred and pathology. [scowl]

They hype Palin more than anyone on the Right, including her strict "social conservative" "neglected if not oppressed part of the Silent Majority" Flyover Country followers ever have. It's at their own risk...

We saw among the Honeymooners the naive, silly expectations already that Obama is guaranteed a second term (re-election). That is, well, naive and silly, for starters. But it's also premature (as well as something of an exaggeration, say) to have high expectations now of Sarah Palin for 2012 or for 2016.

    Tidbits --

I would agree that you can find fiscal conservatism on this site. But as you know, that is only one-half of the equation. Other than the occasional pieces by Michael Reagan (who is not an official contributor here at TMV, but a guest voice), where can you find social conservatism? Its opposite is well represented in writers like Kathy Kattenburg, Joe Windish and others. There is no aspiring Cal Thomas here at TMV, or have I overlooked someone?
  • redbus
This is rubbish, a clear example of "attack the messenger," otherwise known as the logical fallacy of ad hominem. Stand up for Sarah Palin by marshalling arguments in her favor, if you can. As it is, your post dances around her arguably limited merits by underscoring Johnston's supposed problems. Nice sleight of hand.

Incidentally, "Sarah Palin's Image" and the photo make me think of Supermarionation.

This is news? Someone beating up on Sarah Palin again, oh joy.

Redbus: Social conservatism? Try today's article "Why Americans are Up in Arms" by Floyd and Mary Beth Brown.

Willingness to take on democrats? I re-refer you to Jazz's piece on Rangel (today).

I agree that most of the conservatism at TMV is fiscal, as opposed to pro-life, anit- embryonic stem cell research, anti-contraception, anit- gay marriage type of social agenda items.

On the other hand, many of the commenters, myself included, tend to be some degree of moderate in the sense of fiscally conservative and socially either liberal or libertarian. Yes, there are some who are hard core left, and some who are hard core right...which makes it fun for me because I always have someone to disagree with from one end of the spectrum or the other.

My point is not that there aren't liberals here, like your example of Kathy. My point is that on actual liberal agenda sites, liberal bias is ALL you get. That's not true here. There is a mix and a serious attempt to mantain a mix, and, most important to me, intelligent commenters who do more than call each other names.

My suggestion, to anyone who gives a rip, is don't get stuck on one site. Try one devoted left wing site, one devoted right wing site and one more or less in the middle like TMV. Don't get all your input from one source. Oh, and subscribe to a hard copy newspaper just for the heck of it. The more sources one has, assuming an open mind to consider all views, the more well informed one will be.

Sorry for the diatribe - got a little carried away on this little pet peave of mine about folks trying to claim TMV is a leftist communist cell (or something like that). lol

How could McCain's campaign make such an ignorant mistake as to pick Palin for a running mate? You cannot convince me that they actually vetted this woman for suitability. How could any political party choose someone so incompetent to sit in the office that is ready to assume the oval office with such an old (potentially) sitting president? How could they possibly have the country's interest in mind?

Palin is a jackass at best. The more she is in the media the more the public realizes it.
