This is the USA: We Don’t “Take Care” of “People Who Need Help”
Here is an amusing exchange between Sen. Arlen Specter and a woman at a townhall meeting on health care reform:
A woman prompted a standing ovation by telling Specter: “I don’t believe this is just health care. This is about the systematic dismantling of this country. … I don’t want this country turning into Russia, turning into a socialized country. What are you going to do to restore this country back to what our founders created, according to the Constitution?”
Specter responded by noting his support for the Constitution as a past chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee on issues such as warrantless wiretaps.
“When you ask me to defend the Constitution, that’s what I’ve been doing,” Specter said.
However, Specter also noted that overhauling the health-care system is about America taking care of all its people.
“In our social contract, we have provisions that see to it that you take care of people who need some help,” he said.
Where is Tailgunner Joe when you need him?

Ummm… I'm afraid I don't get it. How is this amusing and what does Joe McCarthy have to do with it?
This doesn't make any sense. It looks like someone is trying really really hard to insult conservatives at town hall meetings. The title doesn't match anything in the blog. No one quoted in the CNN blog said that we don't take care of people that need help.
I saw this exchange and I was embarrassed for the woman. Why is that when people don't know how to disagree logically with an issue they resort to name calling and “Nazi” or “Communist” is the best they can do. It is very worrisome when we cannot have a logical and rational exchange of idea. Can it be that talk show hosts and commentators have whipped people into such a froth that they cannot think straight?
Sigh.

People are frustrated. A bill is being rushed through that is so huge that many, including Arlen Specter here where I live, have admitted that they haven't even read the whole document.
Originally, they were going to pass it in less than a month! Obama took more time picking out a dog for his children!
This is about Communism or Nazism AND it is about The Constitution. The American Constitution clearly did not instruct the US government to own businesses and if ownership of businesses creates a government so grossly overweight it fails then we may be looking at some form of socialism to fill the void.

And this is simply the latest, biggest, worst instance of junk legislation rushed through that isn't read or given proper critical attention before it is subject to a vote. The Dems have been generating concern by the public for months now, not only (though currently and especially) because of their health care antics.

If that decision affected the public in any significant way, we would be concerned about that now, too.

It is not amusing, and Joe McCarthy is simply the chosen feeble-minded slander attempt (possibly motivated by fear and loathing of the truth).
