Hagel Confirmed By Vote Of 58-41

Feb 26, 2013 by

Chuck Hagel has just been confirmed as Secretary of Defense by a vote of  58-41. The Senate had earlier voted 71-27 to have the vote proceed.

I don’t yet have a breakdown by party but most Democrats voted yes and most Republicans voted no.

Shame on you Republicans.

The GOP is getting very predictable.

    Predictable, and pathetic.

They threw a little temper tantrum and held up his nomination. Not because they were genuinely concerned that he’d be a terrible Secretary of Defense, but to make a point that they could hold up his nomination. They mounted a filibuster out of sheer spite, and because he was one of their own who’d put country before party for a change.

They knew he would be confirmed, they just wanted to make a big stink about it. I suppose that passes for leadership in some circles.
