Jim Morrison Lights Charlie Crist’s Fire

Hey, I don’t even live in Florida, but Governor Charlie Crist just got my vote because he is considering pardoning rock music bad boy Jim Morrison for 1970 indecent exposure and profanity convictions. Said Crist: He died when he was 27. That's really a kid, when you think about it, and obviously he was having some challenges. There's some dispute about how solid the … [Read more...] about Jim Morrison Lights Charlie Crist’s Fire

There is much to loath about the neoconservative brain trust, the puppet masters that put George Bush up to the Mess in Mesopotamia, but there is a place in a special Hell reserved for Richard Perle. As Bush's Defense Policy Board chief, Perle loudly proclaimed that there was a link between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden after the 9/11 attacks, worked feverishly to … [Read more...] about TV Review: Richard Perle and Pontius Pilate

‘Why the Boys Miss America’

by 16 Comments

That was the caption that Milt Guss, a newspaper guy with whom I worked in the Far East, wrote for this photograph of Bob Hope and a Miss America performing at a USO show at a firebase in Vietnam in 1970. It was a great caption -- and Milt was a great caption writer -- because it captured the moment beautifully in only five words. But it also worked because of the clever … [Read more...] about ‘Why the Boys Miss America’

An interesting post by Toby Harnden, written shortly after he returned from "from Room 2020 of Harper Hall at Virginia Tech", where he talked "to one of Cho Seung-Hui's roommates", who had "seen Cho rise - expressionless - at 5am on Monday, two hours before his murder spree began." Toby raises some questions that need to be answered. … [Read more...] about More VT
