Forty years ago today Apollo 11 was launched sending men to the Moon
One of my earliest memories is seeing this on television: Which happened four days after the launch on July 16, 1969. Forty years ago today we launched Apollo 11 to land men on the Moon. In commemoration of the event, there is a website called We Choose the Moon that is playing back audio of the radio transmissions during the mission in real time. (Warning, the site is very … [Read more...] about Forty years ago today Apollo 11 was launched sending men to the Moon
Health Rationing and Cat Obesity Warnings
Have to give a tip of the hat to Hot Air for one of these videos, presented for your enjoyment this evening. The other is from my old film production company. While you may fully disagree with my negative opinion of a public option in the ObamaCare health plan, the good folks at the Sam Adams Alliance have come up with a really well done video on health care … [Read more...] about Health Rationing and Cat Obesity Warnings
One Latino’s Opinion on Sotomayor’s “Wise Latina Woman” Comment
I watched in amazement this morning as Senator John Cornyn, from the great state of Texas---a state where Latinos make up about 36% of the population---once again was fixated on the "wise Latina" contention. Of course, Cornyn also brought up Sotomayor's involvement with the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, an organization whose mission is to provide equal … [Read more...] about One Latino’s Opinion on Sotomayor’s “Wise Latina Woman” Comment

Blaming Iranian political reformers and the West for yesterday's horrific air crash in northwest Iran, this article by columnist Kian Mokhtari of Iran's state-controlled Kayhan lashes out at former President Khatami for seeking to replace Iran's passenger fleet with Western aircraft - and the West for not selling them to him. The Curious Case of Monica Conyers
With a hat tip to regular reader jwest in a previous article's comments, we find the odd story of former Detroit city councilwoman Monica Conyers in the Detroit Free Press this week. I honestly thought this was a bogus story until I did a quick Google News search and the story seems to have more than sufficient bona fides to comment on. The federal grand jury indictment … [Read more...] about The Curious Case of Monica Conyers
Save Your Pennies: A New Bachmann Opponent
While the hopes of many were dashed last fall when Elwyn Tinklenberg somehow failed to unseat Congressional Reality TV Star Michele Bachmann, I for one didn't regret the money I sent his way for the effort. Even though I still get the occasional fundraising letter from Tinklenberg's campaign, it seems that a new challenger may be stepping forward to fight the good … [Read more...] about Save Your Pennies: A New Bachmann Opponent

CIA’s ‘Kill Al-Qaeda’ Plan No More Than A Turf War
If we are to believe U.S. intelligence officials that a plan to train assassination teams to strike Al-Qaeda leaders overseas including allied countries -- a plan rejected for the most part and never operational -- then I say more power to them. Keep in mind these plans work terrific in movies and Tom Clancy novels but rarely in the real world. The wrinkle is Central … [Read more...] about CIA’s ‘Kill Al-Qaeda’ Plan No More Than A Turf War

Barack Obama & Africa: Some Reflections
In his recent visit to Africa, US President Barack Obama said "all the right things about Africa—and left a few ticklish ones unsaid," says The Economist. "The tone may shift a bit but the policy will be similar to George Bush’s." While the former UN chief Kofi Annan maintains that the tragedy is "that when millions of Africans believed their countries and continent were … [Read more...] about Barack Obama & Africa: Some Reflections
Stink Bombs In Our Midst
A couple of nights ago I was watching the NBC nightly news. They had two stories, one right after the other, that were rather instructive. The first was about the growing shortage of primary care doctors in this country and the rush of medical students to train to become medical specialists. This report noted that average pay of primary care docs is $190,000 a year. Average pay … [Read more...] about Stink Bombs In Our Midst

Guest Blogger: The Future without Reagan…
Blogger Note, the following is by Ian Tanner, a blogger at the Progressive Republican. I was sitting in my office listening to Pandora, when I heard a song that started me thinking. In case … [Read more...] about Guest Blogger: The Future without Reagan…
Health Care as a Right
The House proposal to raise taxes on the very rich to help cover health insurance for all brings into focus what has been a hidden issue in the debate until now: Should medical care be a right guaranteed to all by all, as education, safety in the streets and freedom from foreign invasion now are as part of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? If government pays for … [Read more...] about Health Care as a Right

The Upcoming Fight for Life (Guest Voice)
The Upcoming Fight for Life by Michael Reagan This week Arizona struck another blow in the fight to protect the unborn. Good news for Democrats, I suppose. Sen.
