As I previously predicted, the withdrawal of the Libertarian candidate in New York’s 20th district special congressional election threw the race into a virtual dead heat. After all precincts finished reporting, Democrat Scott Murphy was listed as having a lead of 65 votes. Now we will await the opening and counting of the absentee ballots, which number far more than the current lead held by Murphy. After that will be the mandatory recount and the nearly mandatory lawsuits filed by whomever winds up with less votes.
In a world full of uncertainties, we can count on at least one thing. Assuming this follows the pattern of the Franken – Coleman race, the district will still be waiting for the seat to be filled when Christmas time rolls around. And the beat goes on.
