Karl Rove Analyzes the Present Republicans Running for President: Still Time for Others to Jump In

Republican party political maven Karl Rove, in an appearance on NBC’s Today Show which highlighted why he is such a good on the air analyst, handicapped some of the present GOP Presidential aspirants field. And he said there’s still time for additional candidates to jump into the fray.

Some highlights from his content-packed appearance:

  • NEWT GINGRICH: Rove said Gingrich doesn’t automatically jump to the head of the pack but he could work his way into the top tier. His being well known helps.
  • THE RACE IN GENERAL: Right now there is no front runner. The polling numbers give little blue how this will all play out. It’s not too late to enter now but by July it will be.
  • DONALD TRUMP He believes Trump has plummeted in the polls for two key reasons. He made his campaign “all about an issue that was not at the center of the political debate…that got blown up.” Observers also noted that “his swearing [in a public speech] in Las Vegas turned a lot of voters off.” He doesn’t think the killing of Osama bin Laden by the Obama administration is what has caused Trump to implode. Rather, voters began to think “maybe this was not the businessman who was serious about getting our fiscal house in order.”
  • RON PAUL: Rove noted Paul is in his 70s and didn’t do well last time. “I don’t think that at the end of the day he is likely to be a serious contender for the Presidential nomination.

    • Right now there is no front runner.
