Congressman Paul Broun (R-GA) presented his own interesting take on history in a floor speech where he accused both Presidents Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Delano Roosevelt of having “socialist beliefs”. In his own words,
“In fact, Franklin Delano Roosevelt sent his advisers, his close-held friends, his cabinet people to go visit with Stalin in communist Russia to study what he was doing, what Stalin was doing there so that FDR could replicate it here in the United States. And he did everything that he possibly could to do so.”
These “socialist beliefs” of Wilson and FDR, he postulates, are the cause of our welfare state. He uses welfare state in the pejorative, of course.
