Senator Lautenberg In Hospital

We got word yesterday that New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg had been taken to the hospital.

The information now is he has undergone surgery for a bleeding ulcer.

Initial reports say he is expected to recover and be back to work soon. However when an 86 year old man has surgery you always have to take his age into account.

Obviously politics plays a distant second place to the health of a fellow human being and I am sure we all hope for a speedy recovery.

But you also cannot ignore the fact that if he is forced to step down for health reasons that a Republican would likely be appointed to take his place, further reducing the current majority.

I hope he has a speedy recovery.
Hmmm, a Rep. Governor possibly appointing a Rep. interim senator. The plot thickens and the pendulum picks up speed. Quick Dems, kill the fillibuster rule.

I wish him a speedy recovery as well. I also wish him a speedy retirement to enjoy the rest of his life outsie of the hassles of politics where he can kick back and enjoy his golden years…….and open up that seat.

Senator Lazio — looks good, doesn't it? [chuckle]

  4. DLS says:

Note that Lazio would be quite appealing as someone preventing Cuomo from being governor in New York. Ugh — all Cuomo does is bark and imitate the low-grade appealing-to-losers grandstanding of Eliot Spitzer (someone else unfit for office).

Travel agents are probably doing a bangup job promoting the “All Candidates for NJ Senate Seat” special. First class airfare and tickets to Devil's game.

We should put Kathy on the ballot. Al Franken would enjoy working with her in the Senate.
