Tiger Woods Said to Be Seriously Injured in SUV Accident

Tiger_Woods3.jpg

UPDATE from Dr. E:

ESPN Reports:

“The highway patrol first reported Woods’ injuries as serious, though Woods spokesman, Glenn Greenspan, said Friday afternoon that the golfer was treated at the hospital and released in good condition. A statement from the hospital, as well as Greenspan’s statement, termed the accident as “minor.”

The Florida Patrol spokesperson said “serious injuries” are those requiring more than on the spot minor medical attention. The Florida Highway Patrol said Tiger’s face was cut, and that the airbags did not deploy in the SUV because the vehicle was apparently traveling under the speed required for airbags to fly open: +33 MPH+.

—————-
First report earlier:
These are the only facts we have at the moment:

Leaving his home in Florida, Tiger Woods apparently hit a fire hydrant and his SUV was sent into a tree. First reports are no alcohol involved, and possibly no seat belt. His model of Cadillac SUV may have had no airbag deployment… but those latter two items are not verified at this time.

I think the world of Tiger Woods. As a bi-racial person, I was not the only one to be glad to see he was one of the first to let the public know that he was proud of all his heritages… and thus in him, we saw a new generation had arrived, not one any longer held down and where possible ‘attempting to pass’ in order to try to stay out of harms way. Here instead was a guy who made up a name for his rich heritages… Woods, whose mother is Asian-American and whose father was African-American, calls himself: “Calibasian.”

He refused the either/or racial grid that the overculture had for decades tried to nail us all into a too small cell.

And then of course, when some made fun of his way of seeing himself as Calibasian, he ground them to ashes with the power of his prowess and intensity in golf.

Some thereby gave grudging admiration. Others think he hung the moon. I imagine most will join us in hoping he is alright and can be mended up to best possible outcome.

    "As expected"

Only you can "understand" that odd expectation and the obscession(s) related to it.

Woods and Nordegren were possibly in some kind of domestic strife. (Why did she have the golf club handy? Was she angry at Woods and going after him with it, and he fled, striking his vehicle?) Obviously something is being concealed from the police (and the public), for Woods and Nordegren are avoiding the police, i.e., refusing to be interviewed by the police. (The related question comes to mind, "expected" or otherwise: What do the police suspect as well as what is it they wish to know?)

Sooner or later, we'll find out. Don't be surprised if what we learn was "expected" by some of us, at least.

Dr E - I share your sentiments about Tiger's racial background. In my prior career I had a stint of about 12 years in International finance, Basically I would go into a country and explore the viability of building our business in that country and whether we should buy our way in or go start-up. I had the priviledge of living in Israel, Belgium, India, Italy, Argentina,Japan, Taiwan and believe it or not Poland. I would stay for 12-15 months and the Company would put my family up and hire teachers for home schooling for my 3 kids. Living and interacting in different cultures was as natural to our family as dining.

I look back at that time with fondness - it was a very special time in our lives. For my children, the globe was their oyster - not necessarily America. After college in the USA, they scattered to the far ends of the Earth. My oldest son lives in Amsterdam living a spartan Orthodox Jewish life My daughter ended up at the London School of Economics where she met and married a Hindu man and now lives in Bangalore, India. My youngest son took his masters at Keio University in Tokyo where he met and married a girl from Mongolia and they now live in Tokyo. All my children speak at least 3 languages (Dad languishes behind with only two)

Each culture offers something unique and I am very proud of our multi-cultural grandchildren. Getting to know our in-laws families intimately gives me insight I would have missed living a "normal" life. I firmly believe that in some distant future(500years?) the whole world will be multi-cultural and integrated. That will be the day when we finally understand that under the skin EVERYONE is the same human being, made in the likeness of G-d and EVERYONE is His family.

    "Tiger’s face was cut"

    by his wife? Hmmm..."

As expected, from the person who said something as vile as the worms having the Kennedy brothers for lunch (something to that effect, but even worse) even before the Senator from Massachusetts was laid to rest at Arlington cemetery....

I read that his wife used a golf club to free him from the SUV. Tiger and Obama have the right idea about success--- refuse to let yourself be pegged into a stereotype, and maintain a great work ethic.

I admire them both. I still remember a time when multiracials and biracials were pegged as "mulattos"and "mongrels" and were outcasts from both races.

I know him as a sports hero and as one who broke out from racist stereotypes........but I don't really know him as a human being..........I hope, for the many that elevate him beyond human stature, that it is just a minor accident and he'll be back out there, exciting his fans.

I am glad he is ok. I started playing golf because of Tiger Woods. It is a very strange circumstance, however.
