Secret Service Investigating Poll Asking If Obama Should Be Killed
The Secret Service is investigating the origins of a Facebook poll that asked people to answer the question, “Should Obama be killed?”
The poll, posted Saturday on Facebook, was taken off the popular social networking site quickly after company officials were alerted to its existence. But, like any threat against the president, Secret Service agents are taking no chances.
“We are aware of it and we will take the appropriate investigative steps,” said Darrin Blackford, a Secret Service spokesman. “We take [...] these things seriously.”
The poll asked respondents “Should Obama be killed?” The choices: No, Maybe, Yes, and Yes if he cuts my health care.
The question was not created by Facebook, but by an independent person using an add-on application that has been suspended from the site.
It was a blogger who alerted the Secret Service to the poll after he she saw it and took a screen grab of it from the Facebook page. Go over there and thank him her. (That’s a request, by the way, not an order.)

This is good Kathy. People may think that Free Speech is somehow universal, but threats against the President, elected officials, government employees, or, advocating the violent overthrow of the government is illegal.
I don't care what party is in power. I report everything. Having lived through the assassinations during the sixties and the attempts against President Ford and Reagan, I go absolutely berserk when I hear or read these threats.
I think the results of the poll would be interesting. Too bad the poll didn't provide demographic information, including names, addresses and phone numbers.
That's scary. I hope they find who that person is. They probably will, because all the secret service has to do is track down the i.p. address of the computer that person was using with thier Facebook account.
I'd imagine that the company hosting the poll should be able to provide the information about who voted and which way they voted. I'm sure a few wackos will get a disturbing knock on their door quite soon.

Every threat against the President should be investigated and prosecuted.
It's sad that there are folks out there who wish President Obama dead. It was also sad when there were (and still are) folks out there that wanted President Bush dead, or Clinton, or Reagan, or Carter….
The biggest problem is that those whack-jobs are being associated with the 9/12 Tea Party movement. That simply is not the case, but it's an easy grab for those wishing to bring down that movement.

The fourth option of answer choices pretty much answers the question of what entity at least is behind the poll. And they want corporations to have the same free speech rights as individuals. The inability to track down a single individual should something go awry with that free speech, like with this case, to hold someone directly accountable is exactly why this right should be denied to corporations.
