Jeremiah Wright to the Rescue

With the killings of a Kansas abortion doctor and at the Holocaust Museum, group hatred in this year of Change was losing its bipartisan flavor, but here comes Barack Obama’s former pastor from stage left to restore some balance and, insofar as the subject allows, comic relief.

As usual, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s entrance involves tongue-tripping. After telling a reporter that “Them Jews aren’t going to let him talk to me,” Rev. Wright has clarified his estrangement from the President to explain that he meant “Zionists,” which of course makes all the difference in the world to such Obama advisers of the Hebrew persuasion as Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod.

Even if, as the President keeps saying, words matter, Wright’s bombast can’t be equated with bullets from the Far Right, but it can serve as a reminder that reductive stupidity and scapegoating come from all directions in American society, as they always have.

The flavor of the day in zeitgests is what Paul Krugman calls “The Big Hate,” an upsurge of “right-wing extremism…being systematically fed by the conservative media and political establishment.”

But given the coincidence of widespread economic fears and the installation of an African-American president, it doesn’t take Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck et al to revive traditional American mistrust of “others” and blame them for misfortunes.

An utterly dishonest statement. The implication being that either Rush Limbaugh or Gelnn Beck caused the killings of the abortion doctor in Kansas or the Holocaust Museum shooting. Care to provide an example…? Rush Limbaugh is on 15 hours a week, that can't be hard, right..?

Von Brunn was a frequent poster on the far-rightwing hate site “Free Republic”.

His hateful screed “Obama is Missing” is signed by him, IN HIS FULL NAME, James

    W. von Brunn, on December 02, 2008

It is still up on that site… check it out before it's removed.

His Free Republic nick was “wannabegeek”… read his other rightwing hate posts.

I don't know why the MSM is not covering this.

    Google “Obama is Missing”

Here is a compilation of von Brunn's racist rants on the far rightwing hate site, “Free Republic”.

See for yourself the thoughts of a racist, murdering rightwinger before they “vanish”…

On June 10, the nation tragically witnessed a memorial dedicated to commemorating an atrocity become the site of yet more death. Just before 1 p.m., longtime neo-Nazi James Wenneker Von Brunn entered the Holocaust Museum on the National Mall and opened fire in an attempt to complete the Final Solution his hero had left tentative, an omission Von Brunn dubbed “Hitler’s biggest mistake.” As former Defense Secretary Bill Cohen wandered the museum grounds, Von Brunn killed Stephen T. Johns, a black security officer, then was shot himself. As of this writing, the 88-year-old is in critical condition.

The white-wing fringe greeted the news with predictable joy. Its most popular website, Stormfront.org, saluted “White Racialist Treasure: James Von Brunn” in 2004; a thoughtful reader, seeing Von Brunn had backed up his recent threats with deadly action, wrote yesterday, “Definitely needs a bump today.” Another hoped the shooting would cause Americans to believe taking their children to Holocaust memorials is now “an insurance risk.”

Yet racists are not alone in their glee. Leftists have decided to exploit Von Brunn’s madness to engender fear of rampant conservative terrorism. They overlook one point: the shooter was not a conservative.

A review of his lengthy associations reveals Von Brunn hardly fits the stereotype of a Religious Right, GOP precinct captain. He denounced the Christian faith as a dastardly Jewish conspiracy, a “HOAX” invented by the Apostle Paul to “DESTROY ROMAN CULTURE” from within by undermining its pagan virility. (All screaming capitalization and grammatical errors in this piece appear in the original.) Like others on the racist fringe, the shooter proclaimed clearly: “SOCIALISM, represents the future of the West.”

    casualobserver, no Prozac needed.

I have the self discipline to train my body hard and frequently with weights and cardio, how about you?

Nothing better for the mind, keeping your heart rate in the 150's for an hour.

I'm just supplying irrefutable proof that von Brunn was completely welcomed as a member of “Free Republic” a far-rightwing hate group.

There are ZERO posts out of hundreds in relation to his that suggest the members though he was nuts or even that his views were extreme.

Example follow the tread from his “Obama is Missing”…. it is page after page of pure rightwing hate.

I'm just noticing, erroneously, that the right seems to want to paint the murder as property of the left.

Have an nice day and stay way from those double bacon cheesburgers, k?

    Dave,

That was a great comeback. How do you know Casual Observer isn't a ripped vegetarian? It may be true that the right wing loonies accepted him, but the point is, this guy wasn't a right wing extremist, he was just a nut. For either side to be gleeful that this guy did what he did is unconscionable. Mis- and dis-information is being sent out by both sides and should be viewed accordingly. It does seem that the mainstream media feels a need to assist the left wing to their goals of a new government that doesn't seem to care a stitch about capitalism, free enterprise, personal freedom, or in fact, this country as a sovereign nation. Democrats are selling this country out and so are the republicans. Lets go for the one world government thing, equalize everybody into one squirming mass of humanity where nobody can go out and earn a living in this world. That way, we can all work for and rely upon the new god called the state for our existence. The words divide and conquer should be considered when viewing this banter about right wing and left wing extremists.
