Video: Bulgarian Opposition Leader Survives Assassination Attempt When Gun Misfires

The Daily Mail has an incredible story plus a video (which you can watch BELOW). Bulgarian opposition leader Ahmed Dogan was onstage delivering a speech when a would-be assassin jumped up, aimed a gun at his head and fired — but the gun didn’t go off:

A Bulgarian politician today survived an extraordinary assassination attempt when a man stormed the stage and held a gun to his head as he was giving a speech.

Fortunately for Ahmed Dogan, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, the weapon misfired giving him time to react and hit the would-be assassins hand out of the way.

Before he can attempt a second shot the unidentified suspect is tackled to the ground by security guards and delegates attending the conference in Sofia.

Watch the video here:

This illustrates three things:
(1) How quickly an assassination attempt can occur.
(2) How any security lapse even for a second can be deadly.
(3) The role of happenstance: Mr. Dogan has been given a second lease on life.

  1. Am I a bad person for wishing that we had American justice similar to the Bulgarian justice that was just inflicted on the would-be gunman?
