BREAKING NEWS:  The Associated Press is reporting retired Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf died Thursday in Tampa, Fla. He was 78 years old. Gen. Schwarzkopf served as commander of the U.S.-led international coalition that drove Saddam Hussein’s forces out of Kuwait in 1991. Schwarzkopf, widely known as “Stormin Norman” because of his explosive temper, was a decorated soldier, having served in Vietnam. His last military assignment was as commander of U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Fla.

  1. What a shame. A great guy, smart, realistic, just the guy we needed in that position during the first Persian Gulf war. I hope he went peacefully.

  2. An amazing man. Mensa, West Point, USC masters (mechanical engineering), attended Army War College; and a legit Vietnam hero long before he was a household name. Peace.

  3. A great man and a noble reminder of a bygone era. Rest in peace General and thank you for your service to your country.
