Pennsylvania Republicans have plotted to turn PA totally red this November. One of the key steps in their scheme is the new Pennsylvania Voter ID law. There has been much fanfare from Republicans since the law was passed about how they were nobly protecting voters from fraud. That’s been the usual public rap.
One important Pennsylvania House Republican, however, gave away the true motive at a state Republican Party meeting this past June.
According to a story in the Philadelphia Inquirer, House Majority Leader Mike Turzai at that meet said: “Voter ID, which is going to allow Gov. Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania – done.” He got a great deal of applause, according to the story.
OK. We knew all along this was the real reason this law was concocted by Republicans. But to publicly gloat about how they were disenfranchising voters just takes one’s breath away.
Our only hope at this point is that the courts here in PA aren’t so corrupted they let this obvious political con game stand. I’m not holding my breath on this.
