Over at Bloomberg Josh Baro has The Final Word on Mitt Romney's Tax Plan. Mitt Romney's campaign says I'm full of it. I said Romney's tax plan is mathematically impossible: he can't simultaneously keep his pledges to cut tax rates 20 percent and repeal the estate tax and alternative minimum tax; broaden the tax base enough to avoid growing the deficit; and not raise taxes on … [Read more...] about Romney/Ryan Tax BS
Why Aren’t They All Bush Tax Cuts ??
Just a side note to the debate over the partial vs full extension of the tax cuts. Whenever I hear the arguments from those who support phasing out higher income cuts, they are always called ‘the Bush tax cuts’. Yet when someone points out that there were cuts for lower income taxpayers they are told that everyone supports keeping those. Yet somehow those don’t fall into the … [Read more...] about Why Aren’t They All Bush Tax Cuts ??
Wicked Still Worth Seeing: For a Couple More Centuries
Wicked Still Worth Seeing: For a Couple More Centuries The touring production of the Broadway smash musical Wicked is wicked awesome; primarily because of leads Patti Murin as Galinda (Glinda the Good) and Dee Roscioli as Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West). Murin and Roscioli are the anchors to this well crafted musical adaptation of Gregory Maguire's ingenious novel … [Read more...] about Wicked Still Worth Seeing: For a Couple More Centuries
Rethinking Presidential Succession
The following is a reposting of some thoughts I presented earlier which still needs to be addressed.. While it is not a pleasant thought to consider I do think that this is an important subject to be addressed given the world in which we now live. This subject is one that does need to be addressed and it is one that is often ignored by the media and the Congress. This issue … [Read more...] about Rethinking Presidential Succession
Biden and Ryan Smiling Through Our Disaster
Who won the smirking contest is not clear, but the VP clearly prevailed with split-screen tooth wattage while the GOP wannabe scored higher with tight-lipped disbelief. CNN’s instant poll shows a virtual tie in voter reaction, a score that seems right to a New York Yankees fan who was sneaking peaks at the playoff with the Baltimore Orioles during the grin-a-thon. Both … [Read more...] about Biden and Ryan Smiling Through Our Disaster
Biden Puts Ryan on the Defensive
WASHINGTON -- What a difference a week makes. In the first presidential debate, President Obama let Mitt Romney's attacks on him stand, and seemed disengaged. Vice President Joe Biden stayed in Rep. Paul Ryan's face for the entirety of Thursday's vice presidential debate. In the process, he forced Ryan, and by extension the Romney campaign, onto the defensive for a large part … [Read more...] about Biden Puts Ryan on the Defensive
Biden vs Ryan
To be honest, I would have said Biden won the debate on substance. 6 full days of preparation and memorization, not to mention 40 years in public office and having run for President, does give one an advantage. Ryan did well on substance too, but Biden had it down. But Biden blew truly winning the debate with his silly grins, giggles, interruptions (some 80 times by media … [Read more...] about Biden vs Ryan

Mitt Romney, Man of the People. Really?
The crowds confirm what polls have been showing and gut instincts telling us: American voters, bless their inattentive hearts, are buying the new, improved product that Barack Obama so carelessly helped launch a week ago. Can anything slow the Romney sales momentum? Certainly not the VP debate, a sideshow after the main infomercial has done its work. The get-out-the-vote … [Read more...] about Mitt Romney, Man of the People. Really?
Joe Biden Shows Paul Ryan How a Seasoned Politician Debates, Attacked Him Fiercely On All Fronts During Vice Presidential Debate
The vice presidential debate was one of the best I have ever watched, far better than Joe Biden vs. Sarah Palin. Joe Biden had a mission, to help blunt the effects of President Obama's "empty podium" performance at the first presidential debate last week and that he did. He challenged his opponent Paul Ryan on every issue he raised, even asking "so you're Jack Kennedy now?" … [Read more...] about Joe Biden Shows Paul Ryan How a Seasoned Politician Debates, Attacked Him Fiercely On All Fronts During Vice Presidential Debate
Paul Ryan’s BIG Workout. Not So Much?
Ok, I'm 67 years old any minute now, and I lift. But only beginning less than six months ago and 3x a week for 2.5 hours each time, cardio and weights. So perhaps I dont know what I'm talking about, given I havent had years "of years and years' of lifting. I see that Time magazine has run some pics of Paul Ryan working out. But there are things in the pictures that dont … [Read more...] about Paul Ryan’s BIG Workout. Not So Much?
If You Want My Vote Please Stop Pandering
As we enter into the final month of Election 2012, we are soon to be flooded with wall-to-wall campaigning and this will no doubt bring about lots of political pandering. I am not here talking about the more open pandering of offering bribes and promising big spending programs. I am also not talking about the requisite payoffs to the interest groups, be they the religious right … [Read more...] about If You Want My Vote Please Stop Pandering

Is Mexico's drug violence scaring off the next generation of journalists? (via The Christian Science Monitor) Grenades have exploded in newspaper offices. Thoughts on the 2012 Vice-Presidential Debate
(For some comprehensive commentary, in addition to the great stuff here at TMV, see our pre-debate, mid-debate, and post-debate posts over at my place.) Biden won. And, it would appear, that's the general consensus. He was feisty, forceful, and clear, showing the sort of experience and determination that one has come to expect from him but that was all the more stark with … [Read more...] about Thoughts on the 2012 Vice-Presidential Debate
