Louisville Plans A Muhammad Ali Center and details are here.
Hopefully young people all over the world will realize Ali is THE REAL THING. When I was a kid growing up in Connecticut I watched him come up in the ranks. I admired him them. When I was in college, he visited Colgate University to speak to students there. He was the real thing there as well and it was clear his stage personal masked a serious, humane and complex individual. All too often on the national and international stage we see media creations who wither in the light of reality. Muhammad Ali hasn’t, and won’t — and when he passes from the scene more than a great athlete will be gone. (PS: If some conservative readers think this means I was against the Vietnam War, no, actually, I supported it for most of the war until Nixon invaded Cambodia. But Ali was the REAL THING and he made you think. Not too many boxers do that.)
Blogs Are Costing American Business and here’s how.
Peggy Noonan And The Baby Boomers: We have to admit it: In recent months, we have sworn off reading Peggy Noonan who TMV considers akin to the sound of chalk scratching on a blackboard. But there is a MUST READ stand-back analysis of a recent Noonan piece at The Radical Centrist. This post is worth reading not just for what tells you about Noonan’s latest, but because its analysis is so intriguing about the issue at hand. REQUIRED READING for today.
Scooter Libby: A different take on him.
Are We Seeing The Great Unravelling? Common Sense Desk looks at the Bush adminstration ills. Key quote:
Remember when our president ran in 2000 and said he would restore those qualities? Yeah, right. Another one of the great lies.
Our view: If someone goes back and runs the video tapes of George Bush’s 2000 campaign and runs it in front of an audience of Democrats or Independent voters, there will have to be some laughter. Clearly, this crowd hasn’t brought government more lofty than the Clinton crowd. And being a “uniter not a divider?”
When Bush leaves office look for that to be run in most history books explaining his administration which has proven to be not just one of the most polarizing in American history but one that has chosen to govern through polarization. Now, that is not a crime or unethical — but it’s clear he has NOT been a “uniter.” Of course, we’ll find out more (probably today) when GWB names his Supreme Court choice: will it be a conservative most can live with or a red-meat conservative who will spark a partisan bloodbath?
