In this era of almost hourly political controversy it seems like people are out there looking for something to complain about. Often they go way too far in overreacting.
One example is happening tonight in my neck of the woods. A local minor league baseball team (The Stockton Ports, inspiration for Casey at The Bat) is having a promotion with some political connections.
The team is handing out seat cushions with President Obama on one side and Mitt Romney on the other. The idea is you “sit on” the face of the candidate you want to lose.
This is, of course, a purely tongue in cheek kind of event, similar to ones that have happened for decades.
But leave it to some to protest, there are actually stories on the local news that have people calling it wrong, or in the case of President Obama, racist.
Now I am all for respecting the Presidency, but I find it hard to accept that this is somehow racist or wrong.
Probably every county fair out there has some sort of election oriented event (throw a ball at the guy you don’t like, dunk the guy you don’t like, etc).
So maybe it’s time for people to mellow out a bit.
