One of many thoughts from Stephen Green, aka Vodka Pundit. A tiny taste (read it all yasself):
Second-term Presidents usually have their eyes focused on their legacy – although most aren’t crass enough to talk about it as publicly and as constantly as Bill Clinton. If Bush wants a legacy, he’s going to have to do more than give us hawks a little pep talk every few months. He’s going to have to do more than “stay the course” in Iraq. If Bush wants to leave a real legacy, if he wants his Administration to be something more than the lead-up to President Hillary Clinton, then he’s got to do something more on the domestic front. Bush has got to do something to keep fiscal conservatives happy…..
….But it’s pretty obvious that if Bush doesn’t do something serious to rein in the Idiot Republican Congress, then somebody, Democrat or Independent, is going to win in 2008. And they’ll win in a blowout. Thanks to the 22nd Amendment, Bush is already a lame duck. The question is, just how lame a duck does he want to be?
