It is a given that Oregon is a very blue state. The Republican will win the Congressional district in the Eastern 2/3 of the state but the Democrats will win the state wide offices and everything else. As usual Oregon has several ballot measures which is what is really interesting.
86: Amends Oregon Constitution to create fund for Oregonians pursuing post-secondary education; authorizes debt to finance. I will probably vote yes on this.
87: . Allows judges to be hired by the National Guard and public universities; allows school employees to serve in the legislature. This seems pretty harmless and I will probably vote yes.
88: Upholds four-year driver licenses for those who cannot prove legal presence in the United States. My lizard mind may have a problem with this but my reasoning mind thinks this makes sense so I will probably vote yes.
89: Guarantees equal rights regardless of sex. No brainier – a yes.
90: Creates an open, top-two primary election system. As one of the 40% of Oregonians who are registered as an Independent and have been unable to vote in primaries I am a yes vote. It is being fought by both the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, Labor Unions and business groups.
91: Legalizes recreational marijuana; tasks Oregon Liquor Control Commission with regulation of its sale. This of course is a big one. I suspect it will pass. What is surprising is I have seen no anti 91 ads. As an aging hippie I am of course to vote yes.
92: Mandates labeling of certain foodstuffs that contain genetically modified organisms. I must admit I have mixed feelings on this one. Not sure how I’m going to vote.
Since Oregon is a 100% vote by mail state I will receive my ballot this week which I can mail in or put in a drop box.
