I know Baldilocks as the first blogger to link to one of my posts when I began coblogging at the Moderate Voice seven months ago. Baldilocks, hmm, I thought, thank you! And what an unusual name you have.
I found out Baldilocks is a sharp woman, with a close shaved head on purpose, and a beautiful first name: Juliette; She is insightful, tough, heartful and especially, well read.
We have that in common, a love of books and learning. She was career military. I am a military wife of many years’ standing. She is a writer, I’m a writer. She hates the spammers who attach to her name site; I don’t like that claptrap either.
I enjoyed reading her perceptive, often funny posts. She was dedicated, posted most days, huge energy for a one woman rolling show. Recently I sent her a book she’s been hankering after, a small gratitude for her early support. Her thanks were public and gracious.
Then Yesterday, I read Joe’s roundup and saw that Baldilocks was folding her tent on her blog for now. Hafta earn a living. Yes, I’ve no other reason to often be posting at 3 and 4 a.m. in the morning than that that’s often the only interstice in a 7 day a week other job.
But the thing that threw me was to see Baldilocks’ blog described by some as ‘a conservative right wing,’ site. Being right or left or center, or as I prefer to lean myself, toward the kaleidoscopic, never entered the equation. I just admire people who have funniness, common sense, deep heart and big cojones. Or, bold ovarios.
Go well Juliette. Come back soon. We’ll leave the light on for you.
