NEWSFLASH: James Holmes is in police custody for the shooting rampage at showing of new Batman movie, “Dark Knight Rises.” Twelve dead, scores injured, including three month old baby. The suspect’s apartment building has been evacuated.
James Holmes, 24, of Aurora, has been identified as a white male, whose only brush with the law was a traffic ticket in 2011. He was caught in the parking lot of the Century 16 Movie Theaters, outside Denver, after police began receiving dozens of 911 calls at 12:39 a.m. MT. Police said the man appeared to have acted alone.
Witnesses in the movie theater said Holmes crashed into the auditorium through an emergency exit about 30 minutes into the film, set off a smoke bomb, and started shooting. He then reportedly stalked the aisles of the theater, shooting at random, witnesses said. A baby was shot at point blank range.
“The suspect throws tear gas in the air, and as the tear gas appears he started shooting,” said Lamar Lane, who was watching the midnight showing of the movie with his brother. “It was very hard to breathe. I told my brother to take cover. It took awhile. I started seeing flashes and screaming, I just saw blood and people yelling and a quick glimpse of the guy who had a gas mask on. I was pushed out. There was chaos, we started running.”
Police said 10 victims died inside the theater, while dozens of others were taken to local hospitals, including a child as young as 6 years old. Source
some people in our society have become so depraved and sadistic, that they will stop at nothing to unleash anguish and pain on other. We have seen a steady rise in mass shootings, murder-suicides, domestic violence incidents, homicides and so on. We cannot continue down this path. Muslim extremists aren’t all we need to worry about. Homegrown terrorists like James Holmes are wreaking havoc on innocent Americans.
The “Dark Knight Rises” movie premiere in Paris has been cancelled, as well as the media interviews with Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Morgan Freeman.
President Obama offered support for the people of Colorado, saying:
The Hill: “Michelle and I are shocked and saddened by the horrific and tragic shooting in Colorado,” he said. “Federal and local law enforcement are still responding, and my Administration will do everything that we can to support the people of Aurora in this extraordinarily difficult time.”
Mitt Romney said: “Ann and I are deeply saddened by the news of the senseless violence that took the lives of 15 people in Colorado and injured dozens more,” Romney said. “We are praying for the families and loved ones of the victims during this time of deep shock and immense grief. We expect that the person responsible for this terrible crime will be quickly brought to justice.”
President Obama is set to talk about the shooting at a prescheduled compaign stop at 11:20 a.m. in Fort Myers, but a second stop has been cancelled and he will return to the White House. Mitt Romney’s campaign events will continue as planned.
