Did you know that, not taking into account the recent announced troop increase in Afghanistan, some 220,000 women have engaged in combat operations* in Iraq and Afghanistan? I had no idea that so many of our women in uniform had actually seen combat. And while I knew that women in our military are still barred from performing certain duties or from certain assignments, I … [Read more...] about Full Participation for Our Women at Arms
Jumping the Gun (Guest Voice)
Jumping the Gun by David Goodloe The Daily Kos just can't resist the bait. Of course, CNN helped. Apparently, Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman hasn't decided whether he will be a Democrat, a Republican or an independent when he seeks re–election in 2012. Based on Dana Bash's report for CNN, Lieberman says it is "unlikely" that he will run as a Republican. "I … [Read more...] about Jumping the Gun (Guest Voice)

A Bird in Hand
I have read Jon Walker's answers to Nate Silver's "20 questions for bill killers," and I don't find them very convincing. Many of them -- like the ones about the likelihood of getting a better bill through reconciliation -- are based on little more than wishful thinking. … [Read more...] about A Bird in Hand
The Underrated “A Christmas Carol”
1962's animated musical version of "A Christmas Carol," "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol," is something of an underrated classic. It's peppered with fine, Broadway-style musical numbers and follows the familiar tale quite closely and seriously. Here's the old Scrooge/Magoo seeing his lonely younger self: … [Read more...] about The Underrated “A Christmas Carol”
The Democrats’ Bush Nostalgia (Guest Voice)
WASHINGTON -- Here's what Democrats need to ponder: Can they prosper in the absence of George W. Bush? His presidency was a tonic for Democrats and led to a blossoming of political creativity on the center-left not seen since the 1930s. No tactic, no program, no leader ever did more to catalyze the party than the rage Bush inspired. The whole effort was … [Read more...] about The Democrats’ Bush Nostalgia (Guest Voice)

‘Terrorist’ David Headley: An American Spy?
Why is the USA not allowing India to interrogate American national David Headley, the Mumbai 26/11 terror attack suspect of Pakistani origin. Is it because Headley is also an American spy? David … [Read more...] about ‘Terrorist’ David Headley: An American Spy?

Insult to Injury Over Health Care
A touch of farce is just what the Senate scrimmage needed, and Joe Lieberman provided it at yesterday's White House meeting. While the President tried to get his dyslexic troops marching in the same direction for a final vote, the Senator from Self-Important Sanctimony made a bid for sympathy from the assembled colleagues he has been holding hostage. “What’s happening," … [Read more...] about Insult to Injury Over Health Care

Is it over before even some analysts and Republican pundits said it would be over? In his wildest dreams did Rush Limbaugh really think this could happen? The sound you're hearing and angry words you're reading suggest that the Democratic party is now being strained at the seams. That's followed by a sweeping sound, as old conventional wisdom is being swept under the rug … [Read more...] about Health Care Debacle: R.I.P Democratic Hopes for “Permanent” Majority?

Who was the real person of the year?
That pressing issue of major importance to all rational beings is the subject of my latest column at Pajamas Media today. Bernanke? Really? And Obama didn't even make the top five on their list. But should it have been? I examine that question, along with why anyone would have nominated Sarah Palin, and further invite our good TMV readers to chime in below on who deserved to … [Read more...] about Who was the real person of the year?
