It’s official: Pajamas Media, has now been launched but they’ve axed the old name for the new name Open Source Media (TMV doesn’t even OWN pajamas).
But a new controversy has erupted over whether they’ve usurped someone else’s name. Read what the original Open Source Media has to say about that. Then explore the many links on this post and you’ll see lots of comment on this aspect of it.
In case you’ve been on Mars, OSM is a new infoventure that seeks to take a group of bloggers and offer some of their content on a site plus make them attractive to advertisers as a group. They initially put feelers out to a lot of weblogs, sought confidentiality agreements while they worked out some details, then invited some and notably did not invite some others (our site, alas, was not selected to participate). It’s already coming under criticism for being heavily-weighted to mostly-conservative blogs versus a truly ideologically diverse organization.
There’s a ton of reaction to this new era.
The MUST-READ is James Joyner’s post HERE based on a survey he sent out to various bloggers — including yours truly. We won’t repeat ourselves. Read his link.
Then check out Jeff Jarvis’s thoughts HERE. And, importantly, Donklephant‘s Justin Gardner’s thoughtful piece here.
UPDATE: Ann Althouse has a brutal take on it (and some OSM members were not pleased with her).
UPDATE II: Dean Esmay steps back, looks at it and notes a few things.
UPDATE III: And another controversy along the way….

PS: OSM’s kick off speaker was the New York Times’ Judith Miller, a fitting “kick off” speaker since the Times announced the now controversial reporter is leaving them by (supposedly) mutual agreement.
Will OSM’s next big guest speaker be the Washington Post‘s Bob Woodward?
