Are members of the political Left living in an alternate reality? One might think so after reading the reactions that some members of the political Left have given to Donald Trump’s immigration speech in Arizona.
I am going to highlight parts of that speech, and then ask members of the political Left questions pertaining to those parts.
So, let’s begin.
“I have just landed having returned from a very important and special meeting with the President of Mexico – a man I like and respect very much, and a man who truly loves his country. Just like I am a man who loves the United States. We agreed on the importance of ending the illegal flow of drugs, cash, guns and people across our border, and to put the cartels out of business.”
Question #1: Do you agree that there should be an end to the illegal flow of drugs, cash, guns and people across our border?
Question #2: Do you agree that the cartels should be put out of business?
“Immigration reform should mean something else entirely: it should mean improvements to our laws and policies to make life better for American citizens.”
Question #3: Do you agree that it is the job of the U.S. government to make improvements to our laws and policies to make life better for American citizens?
“We have to listen to the concerns that working people have over the record pace of immigration and its impact on their jobs, wages, housing, schools, tax bills, and living conditions. These are valid concerns, expressed by decent and patriotic citizens from all backgrounds.”
Question #4: Do you agree that working Americans of all backgrounds have valid concerns pertaining to immigration?
“We also have to be honest about the fact that not everyone who seeks to join our country will be able to successfully assimilate. It is our right as a sovereign nation to choose immigrants that we think are the likeliest to thrive and flourish here.”
Question #5: Does the USA as a sovereign nation have the right to choose which foreigners can and cannot enter the USA?
“We will treat everyone living or residing in our country with dignity. We will be fair, just and compassionate to all. But our greatest compassion must be for American citizens.”
Question #5: Do you agree that the U.S. government’s first concern should be for the welfare of U.S. citizens?
“According to federal data, there are at least 2 million criminal aliens now inside the country. We will begin moving them out day one, in joint operations with local, state and federal law enforcement.”
Question #6: Do you want criminal aliens who are in the USA to remain in the USA?
On my first day in office, I am also going to ask Congress to pass “Kate’s Law” – named for Kate Steinle – to ensure that criminal aliens convicted of illegal reentry face receive strong mandatory minimum sentences.”
Question #7: Are you opposed to the enactment of Kate’s Law?
“In a Trump Administration, all immigration laws will be enforced. As with any law enforcement activity, we will set priorities. But, unlike this Administration, no one will be immune or exempt from enforcement – and ICE and Border Patrol officers will be allowed to do their jobs. Anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation – that is what it means to have laws and to have a country.”
Question #8: Do you agree that it is the job of the President to enforce all immigration laws?
Question #9: Do you agree that foreigners who have entered the USA illegally should be subject to deportation?
“As soon as I enter office, I am going to ask the Department of State, Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to begin a comprehensive review of these cases in order to develop a list of regions and countries from which immigration must be suspended until proven and effective vetting mechanisms can be put into place.”
Question #10: Do you want the USA to let in foreigners who have not been effectively vetted?
“For instance, in the last five years, we’ve admitted nearly 100,000 immigrants from Iraq and Afghanistan – in these two countries, according to Pew research, a majority of residents say that the barbaric practice of honor killings against women are often or sometimes justified. Applicants will be asked for their views about honor killings, about respect for women and gays and minorities, attitudes on Radical Islam, and many other topics as part of the vetting procedure.”
Question #11: Should the USA let in foreigners who believe that honor killings should be permitted in the USA?
Question #12: Should the USA let in foreigners who don’t recognize the rights of women, gays and minorities?
“We will ensure that E-Verify is used to the fullest extent possible under existing law, and will work with Congress to strengthen and expand its use across the country.”
Question #13: Are you opposed to the effective verification that immigrants are in the USA legally?
“We want people to come into our country, but they have to come in legally and properly-vetted, and in a manner that serves the national interest.”
Question #14: What is wrong with wanting immigrants to come into the USA legally and properly-vetted, and in a manner that serves the national interest?”
Toward the end of his speech, Donald Trump presented the Angel Moms, mothers of Americans murdered by criminals who are (or were) in the USA illegally.
Question #15: Do you believe that the Angel Moms are racists?
Now, on to the alternate reality of the political Left.
In that alternate reality . . .
. . . the President isn’t supposed to enforce all immigration laws.
. . . the legal immigrant and the illegal immigrant are one and the same.
. . . foreigners who enter the USA illegally have a right to remain in the USA.
. . . foreigners who overstay temporary visas have a right to remain in the USA.
. . . it would be evil to prevent illegal entry into the USA by foreigners.
. . . the Angel Moms are racists.
Such is the alternate reality of members of the political Left who accuse Donald Trump of being xenophobic.
Such is the alternate reality of members of the political Left who have compared Donald Trump’s rally in Arizona to a Nazi rally and to a KKK meeting.
No, Donald Trump isn’t promoting a halt to all immigration. He isn’t trying to get rid of all immigrants. He isn’t promoting a halt to all Muslim foreigners entering the USA. Yet, in the alternate reality of the political Left, Trump is trying to do all that.
Yes, Trump has put his foot into his mouth on several occasions when talking about immigration. Plenty of Democrat politicians have put their feet in their mouths, and yet they continue to be elected and reelected.
At least Trump has a specific immigration plan.
What is Hillary Clinton’s plan other than the status quo?
The “Wanted” posters say the following about David: “Wanted: A refugee from planet Melmac masquerading as a human. Loves cats. If seen, contact the Alien Task Force.”
