Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher whose family has been involved in standoffs with federal law enforcement in two states, flew to Oregon on Wednesday. He was arrested at Portland International Airport, and he faces federal charges related to the 2014 standoff at his Nevada ranch.
Bundy owes the U.S. Bureau of Land Management $1 million in unpaid fees and penalties for grazing his cattle on federal land in Nevada.
The Bundy family moved back into the media spotlight in 2016 when Bundy’s sons, Ammon and Ryan, organized the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Burns, Oregon. They were arrested on January 26.

All arrested in the Oregon occupation have been charged with conspiracy to impede a federal officer. This same felony charge awaits the remaining four holdouts, who are scheduled to give themselves up Thursday morning.

The occupation began as a protest for Oregon farmers who were convicted and sentenced to prison for their conduct on federal (public, owned by you and me) grazing land. Protesters have called for land to be returned to its “rightful” owners, but they do not mean American Indians.

We know it’s not over, but there’s finally some closure for Oregonians.
