Everybody’s Final Four still intact? Probably, given that there were precious few major upsets this year. More on that it a minute.
First things first though. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi? The college with its very own island nearly pulls off the biggest upset in years before fading to Wisconsin. I thank my lucky stars that my Madison-native roommate advised me against putting the Badgers in my Final Four. I have them out in the Sweet Sixteen to Oregon, but quite frankly, they’ll be lucky to make it that far.
I’d like to brag about calling Winthrop over Notre Dame, but it seems like everybody and their mother had that pick (except my mother–but she’s creaming us just fine without it). Them and VCU were the only big shockers of the first round though. Even the 10 seeds universally fell. That means there are going to be a lot of really scary games in round two. My bracket, for example, will be made or broken tomorrow when Washington State plays Vanderbilt (I say that, assuming that Winthrop will not strike twice and beat Oregon. A mistake I made last year regarding Bradley versus Pitt. Clearly, I’ve learned my lesson). Go Wazou!
The guy winning my Facebook bracket picked a grand total of 0 upsets. Every game, up to the final four, he picked the better seed to win. I’d feel really annoyed if he won it all. Thus, I will be very cheerful whenever the first one seed goes down (unless it is Kansas or, God forbid, Ohio State). If UNC drops to Michigan State, my life would be complete.
You know the drill.
