This may sound strange… but we at TMV want you all to stop voting for the Weblog Awards. Well, you should not stop voting entirely, please continue to vote for David Schraub and for Ed Morrissey, but stop voting for The Moderate Voice in the “Best Centrist Blog” category.
Wonder why? Here’s the answer, from Ann Althouse’s blog:
Don’t forget to…
… vote. Here. You can vote every day, remember, and you should. It’s not wrong. It’s the actual procedure to vote every day.
Nothing wrong with that, one might say, so why do I urge you to stop voting?

You remember to remind us every day. If you’ve noticed, us commenters have a bad habit of drifting off topic. We have a short attention span.11:03 AM, December 09, 2006

I hope people here realize the importance of crushing TMV (which launched an idiotic — and immoderate! — attack on me).

I predicted Ann would get most of the odd votes. And Steve there is a real diference between “crushed” and “punished”. Crushed is commonly used by partisan fans in a heated but fair competition while punished is more often used by those sufering from sexual hangups or BDS. Which are you?
And re stupid contest, most of us have a favorite sport or interest. I was surprised to see one of Ann’s competitors has not posted since the middel of Novvember- how the heck did they get into the finals?

You can only vote once a day. If you go back to vote more than that, you’ll see this message:“You have already voted once in the last 24 hours.”
It’s run by Muscular Big Brother! They know who you are. Our sheer numbers shall overcome.

Let me repeat Ann’s remark:

There are two ways of dealing with something like this: get angry or laugh. We at TMV choose to laugh. All Ann is doing, is acting like, umh, seemingly obsessed and vindictive. To her, these ‘elections’ are not about who the best centrist voice is, no, it is about crushing TMV. And why? Because TMV criticized her a while back. Most people would shrug their shoulders and try to answer whatever criticism in a reasonable and thoughtful manner — or just move on. Ann, however, does not seem able to do just that. She only knows one solution: continue on the warpath and “crush” the opposition.
So, what I want you to do from now on is this: stop voting, or vote for Winds of Change in this particular category. Or another centrist blog if you want.
She is allowed to crush us. She can do whatever she wants to… hell, we’ll lend her a hand: our goal is to lose… bigtime.
There is also a sad part about this… Most bloggers are honored to be nominated and have a ‘let the best man win’-attitude. Althouse, obviously, does not agree with that view. The organizers of the Weblog awards put a lot of time and energy into organizing these elections… Ann decides to ruin its relevance completely. The awards are now becoming the equivalent of a presidential campaign, with the attempt to raise up the negatives of “the opposition.”
In the past, bloggers simply let their readers know they were up for an award and asked them to vote for them.
There is more to it of course than just that, we at TMV – all of us – put a lot of energy and time into this blog as well. All of us are busy people: some have jobs, others are writing books, again others are college students… sure, one can disagree with our views (we even disagree with ourselves, in case you haven’t noticed), but to attack us like this? To show us no respect whatsoever? And how about our Guest Voice columnists of differing views who’ve given of their time.
I am writing this as one of the most conservative contributors to TMV (with Marc). Normally, I agree with Ann on quite some issues. I do not have anything against Ann’s views, nor – before this controversy – against her personally. A smart and provocative lady, is what I thought of her. My present thoughts are clear: because she feels ‘attacked’ (which for most people means ‘criticized’), she decides to start some kind of smear campaign against TMV.
Congrats Ann: you you have now undermined if not destroyed the relevance of the Weblog Awards as a contest by readers about content and, as such, have done a dissservice to the Weblog Awards’ organizers who have put a lot of time and energy into organizing this contest and you are forever corrupting this contest.
P.S.
Again: please stop voting for TMV. We want her to crush us.
P.P.S.
Do not stop voting for David Schraub in the category Best of the Top 3501 – 5000 Blogs and for Ed Morrissey in the category Best Conservative Blog.
P.P.P.S.
