Presidents Carter, Clinton, and Obama have had the most minority staffers of any president living in the social media age. President George H.W. and George W. Bush have had plenty of minority staffers as well. However, the only living president that follows a minority staffer is Barack Obama and none of the staffers he follows are chiefs of staffs or personal aides.
The show The West Wing had over a dozen minorities in its eight year series. That is more minorities than the average POTUS would have working in the West Wing during that time span. I was the first African-American to win my middle school (Berkeley) spelling bee and to place in the County Spelling Bee in 2004. The United States of America amounts to chumminess for each person who wants the finest quality of life the world can offer — which is the USA. Inclusiveness is important for an honorable country.
Social media engagement is a core component of the togetherness of any entity in today’s world. A follow, like, share or retweet can mold someone’s brand for a positive prognosis. It is saddening for our country to have presidents who campaign on cultural inclusiveness, but do not demonstrate it in the most uncomplicated ways. It only takes the push of a button to indicate your personal consideration for the world to see on social media. West Wing workers have worked hundreds of hours for these presidents and they should take a moment to appropriately engage with them on social media.
