I am leaving Houston today to take my wife to Disney World to celebrate our 20th anniversary over the weekend. Therefore, I probably won’t post anything until early next week. Vacations for me tend to be times of reflection as well as relaxation and fun. So, in addition to telling Mickey hello, I will likely do a bit of thinking about my role here at TMV among a number of other things.
The majority of my posts to date have related to what I see as the most interesting and consequential current domestic political story. That story is the struggle of the Republican Party to regain relevance as a national political party following the takeover by its most extreme elements. That takeover has regressed the GOP to a largely regional (Southern) and religious (fundamentalist Christian) movement and resulted in a dearth of new policy ideas and increasing distance between it and the American political mainstream. This, in turn, has led to a string of losses in national elections with more on the way unless there are important changes.
My question for the board is this: do you think this topic is important enough to warrant continued focus? If not, are there other themes you would like to see explored in future posts?
Thanks for the time, thought and articulation that this blog is justifiably known for. It is a treat to participate at TMV.
