Pat Buchanan: Dude, Where’s My White Privilege?

From World Nut Daily, the only rag that will publish Pat Buchanan anymore:

“Whites are not only more anxious, but also more alienated. Big majorities of whites say the past year’s turmoil has diminished their confidence in government, corporations and the financial industry. … Asked which institution they trust most to make economic decisions in their interest, a plurality of whites older than 30 pick ‘none’ – a grim statement.”

Is all this due to Obama’s race?

Even Obama laughs at that. As he told David Letterman, I was already black by the time I was elected. And he not only got a higher share of the white vote than Kerry or Gore, a third of white voters, who said in August 2008 that race was an important consideration in voting, said they were going to vote for Obama.

With black voters going 24 to 1 for Obama, he almost surely won more votes than he lost because of his race.
[…]
In their lifetimes, they have seen their Christian faith purged from schools their taxes paid for, and mocked in movies and on TV. They have seen their factories shuttered in the thousands and their jobs outsourced in the millions to Mexico and China. They have seen trillions of tax dollars go for Great Society programs, but have seen no Great Society, only rising crime, illegitimacy, drug use and dropout rates.

They watch on cable TV as illegal aliens walk into their country, are rewarded with free educations and health care and take jobs at lower pay than American families can live on – then carry Mexican flags in American cities and demand U.S. citizenship.

They see Wall Street banks bailed out as they sweat their next paycheck, then read that bank profits are soaring, and the big bonuses for the brilliant bankers are back. Neither they nor their kids ever benefited from affirmative action, unlike Barack and Michelle Obama.

They see a government in Washington that cannot balance its books, win our wars or protect our borders. The government shovels out trillions to Fortune 500 corporations and banks to rescue the country from a crisis created by the government and Fortune 500 corporations and banks.

America was once their country. They sense they are losing it. And they are right.

America was once their country? Perhaps Uncle Pat has forgotten who built their country:

Black Americans have shed blood in every American war since the Revolution. This country, even the very Capitol building in which today’s legislators now demand to see the birth certificate of the first black president, was built on the sweat and sinew of slaves. Before we were people in the eyes of the law, before we had the right to vote, before we had a black president, we were here, helping make this country as it is today. We are as American as it gets. And frankly, the time of people who think otherwise is passing. If that’s the country Buchanan wants to hold onto, well, he’s right, he is losing it.

Good riddance.

Darren Hutchinson has more along these lines:

Excuse me, Pat, but the country belongs to all of us.

Pat comes across as desperate — rather than passionate. Perhaps desperation caused him to ignore the truth more than usual. He mocks the Great Society as accomplishing nothing — except for urban blight. But working-class people of all races benefit from Great Society programs like student financial aid. Also, most of the recipients of welfare are poor and white. And working-class people would not have adequate healthcare as seniors in the absence of Medicare — another Great Society program.

Pat also says whites never benefited from affirmative action. Apparently, excluding people of color from jobs and educational opportunities for centuries never benefited whites, but using race as a “plus” in college admissions causes an emotional meltdown. Someone give this man a Valium laced with truth serum.

Pat may be a racist, but his critique of our economic policies have been far more accurate and honest than that of any other politicians in the last twenty years. On the other hand he has not had to run for office…

    • Hey DQ — I think we all know that outsourcing is a big problem. There’s nothing new here. What’s new is blaming this outsourcing on non-white people, when these decisions are made primarily by white people, for the benefit of white people. (Not all white people, of course, just for the rich ones controlling the companies that benefit greatly from cheap labor and cheap materials found in countries other than ours.) The other problem is thinking that white people are most hurt by it. The majority of people in the US are white, so it does stand to reason that pure-numbers wise, there will be more white people who lose their jobs through outsourcing. However, it should be noted that the vast majority of outsourced labor is low-skill — jobs that are disproportionately held by people of color. Therefore, I don’t consider Pat’s take on this “honest”, I consider it pretty blantant race-baiting.

Thats the problem with Pat, always has been. He wears bigot like the GOP wears their brand of Christianity so if you dare agree with him on anything you can be branded a bigot as well if you do not quickly follow with a “but he is a bigot” which is crap in my opinion. I did not read him as even saying it was because of these people throughout most of the populist rant and since most of those decisions were made by white people I doubt he would deny the truth in it either.

Where I disagree with him and many others do as well is that once they are here watcha gonna do then??? Of course the problem is the job market that absorbs them and lax border enforcement but those problems are created problems in the interest of industry, not the immigrants.

Either way I look at Pat like I look at many of the old slave owning or segregationist politicians of the past, just because you like him and even quote him is no big deal. If you’re a bigot it will be evident quickly enough so theres no point in ignoring good points even if they come from another time. I am on the left but I am a paleocon type on the right the current version of the right just scares the holy hell outta me. Makes me miss paleocons, at least with them you knew they loved their country, sadly a good many of them were bigots and you get what we have here, a good and true message twisted by poison and backward thinking.

However, it should be noted that the vast majority of outsourced labor is low-skill — jobs that are disproportionately held by people of color

Tell that to the Indian, Bulgarian, Hungarian and Russian programmers, and I hate to break it to you but white is a color…

Anything that can be outsourced is being and will be outsourced, and since most of the Democrats are too spineless to stand up to Corporate America, and since the Republicans only care for Cheap Labor, you hold your nose and get allies where you can find them…

        • “people of color” is a common, non-offensive term for anyone not white, hate to break it to you. I didn’t make it up, and I’m not using it incorrectly.

Also, talk about missing the entire point. Pat is saying that “white people” have a ton to be agreived of, and lists outsourcing as one of them. My point is that, if anything, white people are more to blame and less hurt than non-white people by this action. Again, if for some unknown reason this isn’t perfectly clear already: I’m not saying no white people are hurt by outsourcing.

” Democrats are too spineless to stand up to Corporate America, and since the Republicans only care for Cheap Labor”

Did you make a little switcheroo of the parties there?

“you hold your nose and get allies where you can find them”

If these “allies” blame all the problems in this country on non-whites (which is basically the thesis of Pat’s piece), they obviously are so beyond being able to see the problem clearly, so myopic in their ability to see cause and effect, that I really don’t think they’ll be much help. If you want to lie down with that dog, go for it. I prefer not to itch.

Can’t help but agree with you. We give away huge chunks of our economy and still massive numbers of Illegal Hispanics flood over our borders bringing with them every corrupt horror that their national cultures apparently tolerate.

      • Don Quijote

still massive numbers of Illegal Hispanics flood over our borders bringing with them every corrupt horror that their national cultures apparently tolerate

The only difference between their countries of origin and ours is that in ours corruption has been made legal by the supreme court a long time ago (Corporations are people, and money is speech). Legalized Bribery is the order of the day…

        • Father_Time

Granted, but I wasn’t referring to bribery. I’m more concerned with gangs, drug lords and general violent arseholes.

  • Father_Time

To be fair, it was whites that voted President Obama into power or he never would have become President….albeit against the warnings and wishes of Pat Buchanan.

  • JSpencer

Buchanan’s dream of an all white, all christian, all conservative America was infiltrated by live, thinking, three dimensional human beings who (gasp) didn’t choose him as their standard bearer! Poor Pat..

  • “their taxes” “their factories” “their jobs” “their country”

Only white people have ever paid taxes, worked in factories, had their jobs outsourced, or are citizens. Didn’t you know?

Because all big corporations are run by illegal non-white people, it’s brown people’s ever-increasing need for cheaper labor to boost their multi-billion dollar profits that is sending our jobs overseas.

Seeing a Mexican flag makes white people’s eyes bleed; it’s just that offensive! OMG!!!!!

Mexicans ruined the financial system, and Mexicans used 2 trillion dollars of tax payer money to prop it back it up. It’s the Mexicans! Didn’t you see them??? Wall Street and the American government are OVERRUN with them!!!

Let us all weep for the poor, niggardly white man! So oppressed!

  • DLS

Don Quijote, at least, understands reality. Buchanan’s paleo-con populism has commonality with the farthest populist left as well, including its protectionist elements. Kathy and more “challenged” [rolling eyes] people, don’t rush stupidly to confuse race with culture and development, or progress, and fighting to preserve some elements of its retention, even if it violates (what is truthful) mainly economic precepts.
