That explains that. I’ve wondered for some time now why a lot of the news on the major media sounded more like a press release than news. It turns out that’s because it is.
According to a recent article in the New York Times titled “National Journal Bars Quotations Tweaked by Sources,” supposed “well respected” journalists have been giving quote approval to their sources.
Heck, back when I was the editor of an accounting newsletter I knew that wasn’t right. Every time some PR flak or interviewee asked – and they did ask – I said that no.
As “Queen of Controllers,” as a friend laughingly called me, I would never think of sinking to that level.
But our corporate controlled big media – few such qualms, it turns out.
(You might wonder how a visual artist got to be the editor of a newsletter for controllers. It’s a long story. Let me just say that artists do many things to survive and still be artists.)
Here’s a little shameless PR of my own.
