I have neither seen the movie nor read the books, so this is not a reflection on either. However, I just wanted to point out a telling feature of The Family Research Council’s rave review:
At two hours and twenty minutes, Gresham says, he felt “that no time [had] passed…like Narnia-time in reverse.” Australia’s newspaper, The Age, noted Gresham’s “enormous reserves of charm, though liberals and feminists who encounter the gale force of his born-again Christianity may disagree.” But they should like a fantasy kingdom ruled by a woman where “it’s always winter and never Christmas.” [emphasis added]
Ruled by a woman? Oh, what horror those liberals wish to bestow upon us! It’s a good thing we have groups like the FRC to keep us on the right path–and our women in front of the stove where they belong.
I think that these people badly need to read Kevin Drum on the matter.
(I suppose now would be a bad time to note that I do love winter and vastly prefer it to all the other seasons?)
