I don’t often listen to political campaign speeches, but I listened to this one. On YouTube. To the end.
I wrote on Facebook: “If she could infuse him with just an ounce of her easy, conversational style that is tempered with emotion and stories that connect the heart …”
So no wonder I was taken with this tweet:
Obama’s new campaign slogan: Michelle Obama’s Husband.
— Aaron Levie (@levie) September 5, 2012
Obama, a lawyer with a thriving career, put her husband’s ambitions before her own when they decided to make this journey together. Another key tweet:
This speech is the climax of Michelle Obama’s 8-year political conversion, from reluctant spouse to campaign powerhouse.

And, of course, a different nod to Mom-in-chief
Oh, there was strategy there. Lots of it, like this:
Michelle Obama will be introduced by a military mom… from Ohio. abcn.ws/RD50XG

I heard a speech about personal responsibility. And the importance of family and friends and, secondarily, a community (read “government” as that is community writ large) safety net. But this tweet shows that you hear what you want to hear, I guess:
Here’s what I heard from Michelle Obama last night: “Government is the center of your life. You are nothing without it.” #DNC

She did not name names. She made no direct comparisons between the candidates. But her supporters did.
I like to think that Michelle Obama is the type of wife who would say: “Dude, the dog is riding inside the car.”

Clint Eastwood just threw a whisky bottle at invisible Michelle Obama. #DNC

Michelle Obama wore a Tracy Reese dress worth btwn $250-$450 for her convention speech. Ann Romney wore a $1,900 Oscar de la Renta
— Fay (@faymuthoni) September 5, 2012
And the result was priceless:
#Michelle Obama got 28k tweets per MINUTE last night. #Ann Romney got 6k per minute. #Mitt got 14k. Do tweets= votes? #DNC2012

I’m. for once, speechless. First Lady Michelle Obama epitomizes beauty, grace, intelligence, class, and warmth. Proud.

Have I just watched the first future woman president of the United States in Michelle Obama? What an address to the Democratic Convention.
