Though this is being written with all good humor and may be regarded as comedic by serious political minds, reports appear to be true that Michele Bachmann (R-MN) is testing the waters for a possible run at the Republican presidential nomination. Unlike her run for the House of Representatives, which she says came about as the result of a calling from God, her investigation into a presidential bid is taking a more conventional approach.
She will soon embark on a trip to Iowa, her third in the past eight months, where she will hold a series of meetings with party elders to learn about the caucus process. On January 31 she will be back in Iowa as the keynote speaker for Iowans for Tax Relief. Last week Bachmann traveled to Michigan, another early primary state, where she was featured at a GOP function.
Bachmann is a skilled fundraiser. She raised $13.4 million for her recent re-election bid and still has $3 million left. Thank goodness for her sake that her cash stash wasn’t wiped out by the Treasury Department-Federal Reserve-Chinese conspiracy to eradicate the dollar and replace it with a one world currency, a theory she once advanced on Glen Beck’s show.
But back to reality. Bachmann’s staff will neither confirm nor deny her presidential aspirations. She does, after all, have a law degree from an unaccredited law school. Asked about a possible presidential run, Bachmann Chief of Staff Andy Parrish responded, “Nothing is off the table.”
One does wonder how she will identify key voter districts after encouraging people not to participate in last year’s census. But that’s a minor issue. At least we won’t have to worry about those AmeriCorps re-education camps indoctrinating our children under President Bachmann. Whether, as president, she would again hide behind a bush to watch a gay pride parade has yet to be addressed by the Congresswoman or her staff.
