Mainstream American Media (The true spirit of living American) (Yeah, now that is what I mean)
by Arif Ahmad
I will start off with a joke and please take it as just that. Though impressed with President Obama’s speech on terrorism I was amused when he challenged the Muslims and their leaders to step it up to confront extremism. It reminded me of a person on the beach who finds this bottle. He opens it and out comes this Genie who asks the person his one wish. The person asks for a big house. The Genie rolls over laughing and says, “If I could get you a big house would I have lived in this bottle?”
Dear President Obama if our Muslim Genie were this good would we have been in such a tight spot for so long?
To the real point of this writing, please allow me to start off with a few assumptions.
Mainstream Media is the face of America and rather difficult to penetrate for an outsider.
Racism, Immigration, Terrorism are real-time issues facing the American society.
The group of people which come to mind when I say Racism is Blacks.
The group of people which come to mind when I say Immigration is Hispanics.
The group of people that come to mind when I say Terrorism is Muslims.
Now look around in the Mainstream American Media and show me the proportion of Black, Hispanic and Muslim representation in them.
Black kids from the south side of Chicago, Hispanic and Muslim youth sitting around a table discussing these issues on CNN?
Allowing more Op-eds and Opinions.
For the better appreciation and answers may not lie without but within.
Give us a real voice, let us in and we might all come that much closer to the solutions.
In the true spirit of living American.
Yeah, now that is what I mean.
