Earlier we commented on THIS POLL that shows President Bush’s approval rating has sunk to 39 percent. But Tim Russert, on NBC’s Today Show, pointed out some additional facts about this poll — politically devastating ones for the White House:
- Swing voters have deserted Bush and his administration.
- Only 2 percent of African Americans polled approve of Bush’s leadership — perhaps a new record, for any American President. Remember that the big push for the GOP in recent years has been to try to build links to and attract African-American voters.
- By a 9 percent margin, those polled would like to see Congress in Democratic hands.
Check the video out HERE on the always indispensable (and fun) Crooks & Liars. It’s must viewing because Russert explains why he thinks the results are going this way….and how Democrats view them…and what they intend to do in 2006.
The key question you have to ask yourself now is this: what can get BETTER to change this trend? It’s hard to project many events or votes. The administration’s image will be dealt a monster blow if White House political maven Karl Rove is indicted over the next few weeks. From all reports, Americans will be in an uproar this winter as they pay bloated heating bills. All of this suggests that the most the White House can hope for is a holding pattern; the worst it can fear is more dissatisfaction if political, financial and legal controversies continue to rage. Bottom line: unless something changes, the Bush presidency is on the wane — and not just because the months are passing.
