Yahoo! News reports that Governor Mitt Romney won the Iowa straw poll as expected. As I wrote yesterday, a mere victory would not be enough for Romney: he would have to win bigtime.
And he did.
All in all, he got (almost) 32% of the votes, which is almost twice as much as the runner-up. The runner-up is Governor Mike Huckabee. He surprised – he won, in total, 18% of the votes, which is not bad for him – to say the least. In fact, it is a great result for the former Governor of Arkansas. He has now truly put himself on the agenda. The logical result: both he and Mitt Romney will get more attention in the media.
Congratulations to both. All in all, these two are probably my favorite Republican candidates – although I also greatly respect Ron Paul. Mitt Romney is very experienced, very knowledgeable and a great leader. He is in many ways the opposite of George W. Bush. He does not make decisions based on intuition. He makes decisions based on arguments and a good look at the facts. He is not afraid to question his own beliefs.
