As if Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) hadn’t provided enough doubt about his ability to think rationally with his constant accusations that the concept of anthropogenic global warming is a huge hoax on the part of thousands of scientists he now has taken his relationship with reality to a distance that might best be measured in light years. He has claimed that the kind of “socialized medicine that Obama is trying to impose on America” would have meant that he would not have received the emergency surgery that he had when a dangerous level of artery blockage was discovered. This is not true in countries that have systems resembling Obamacare and it’s not true in countries that have single payer health care systems.
Once upon a time Inhofe seemed like a rational center-right Republican. I voted for him for mayor of Tulsa when we lived there. In fact I voted for him twice, in 1980 and 1982. It’s a strange phenomenon, too common in the GOP. I also voted for Christopher Bond for governor in Missouri. Not once in recent history could I bring myself to vote for him for the Senate.
