BBC: Staff and pupils have been evacuated from a US high school in Bailey, Colorado, where an adult gunman has taken up to four hostages.
A gunman took five people hostage, and is still holding at least two of them at a Park County school. Several shots have been fired.
Lance Clem, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol, said it is unclear if anyone was injured at Platte Canyon High School in Bailey.
Clem said five students were taken hostage at gunpoint in a classroom. The suspect has released one of the five, a girl, he said. More hostages may have subsequently been released.
“There were some shots fired,” said Eric Wynn, CSP spokesman He said the suspect is a 35-year-old man.
Park County authorities requested help from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department’s bomb squad and SWAT team, said Jim Shires, Jefferson County sheriff’s spokesman.

A hostage situation at Platte Canyon High School in Bailey, Colorado, is over after police stormed the school, CNN affiliate KUSA reported. The station said the gunman is dead.

A girl who was shot by the gunman died about 4:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. ET) at the hospital after a helicopter transported her there, said Bev Lilly, a spokeswoman for St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver.
Police said earlier they believed the girl was 16. She was shot as police stormed the room where the gunman was holding hostages, police said.
According to Rocky Mountain News, some of the hostages were sexually assaulted by the gunman.

A teenaged girl who was taken hostage by a gunman at Platte Canyon High School in Bailey today has died from her injuries, according to a spokesperson for St. Anthony Hospital. Bev Lilly confirmed that the student died at 4:32 p.m, shortly after arriving at the hospital. A friend of the girl’s family identified her as Emily Keyes. She has a twin brother named Casey.
