Gordon Brown: A Lack Of British Leadership
by Dalitso Njolinjo
Rarely does a politician display his disdain for the people his serves quiet like Mr Gordon Brown. If you want to know what is wrong with British politics and why Britain is the country that is worst placed to deal with this financial crisis, look no further then our unelected Prime Minister.
The man believes that every single British citizen does not possess independent thought and intellect because if he did he’ll know that we remember his bragging about how he “presided over the longest period of growth ever, creating two and a half million more jobs, and lifting 600,000 children out of poverty. Not afraid of taking bold, long-term decisions, one of his first acts was to make the Bank of England independent.”
He took credit for the economy in the boom years but fails to take responsibility in the bad. Incredible. He will not say sorry for tearing down the safe guards of the British banking system, he will not say sorry for not saving in good years for when times were rough and he won’t say sorry for simply not forecasting this major global recession. So much for long term decision making.
His response, ‘This is a global recession, no one could have foreseen this’, ‘Britain are better placed than any other European country to get through this economic recession’…right, tell that to the International monetary fund who say that Britain will be the only country still in recession next year.
Besides, if this recession is the cause of global circumstances, can’t you argue that his success as Chancellor falls under the same category of explanation? It was the housing bubble that launched his success after all.
Britain is in a rut and Gordon Brown is just not the person to get us out of it. I hope David Cameron can show some testicular fortitude and face the problems that we have head on, testicular fortitude like the MEP Daniel Hannon who shows that there are still people out there who have seen through Mr Brown and have the self dignity to not be conned any longer.
