Fox is cancelling “Arrested Development,” only the funniest sitcom since Seinfeld, because the idiot suits at Rupert’s network couldn’t figure out how to sell it. They gave it a sh—y time slot the first season (9:30 Sunday), moved it up last season (8:30) and now, finally, it has the lead it deserves (8, albeit on Monday). They preempted it for a month for the baseball postseason. The promos for the show are ludicrous – making it slightly more appealing than the gonzo crap they use to sell “Stacked.” It’s time for a “Family Guy”-style pressure campaign to bring back the show. I expect Save Our Bluths will yet again organize the campaign. The official Fox user forums for the show are going insane with the news. Amid the promises to never watch Fox again – a bit harsh, even for the morons that run the network – this might be the best idea yet for a smart network [UPDATE: Link was broken – fixed now]:
NBC should pick-up this show and put it as a lead-in for “my name is earl” on tuesday nights. Although the two shows are very different, they share the same vein of humor with the ridiculous scenarios that each show goes through.
I wonder how the plotline will react to the news – when Fox cut its order for the show from 22 to 18 episodes last year, a not-so-subtle reference was inserted – a client told Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) the 22-unit housing project they’d ordered was being cut to 18. I don’t what’s better for the show – make scathing allusions to Fox and the cancellation, or be diplomatic and hope they can pressure the suits to continue, or be a good little cast for another network.
(Thanks for the news, Jeremiah!)
