Israel isn’t the only U.S. ally in the Middle East expressing concern about the policies of the Obama Administration. According to this editorial from Lebanon’s L’Orient Le Jour, The pro-West ruling faction in Lebanon is worried as well – given the peace overtures being sent out in the direction of Syria and Iran and the far-right Israeli government of Binyamin Netanyahu.
Emile Khoury of Lebanon’s L’Orient Le Jour writes in part:
“How is Obama going to handle the issue of the Middle East – powder keg of the world? As the weakest link in the chain, Lebanon is concerned, afraid of falling victim once again, to any bazaar [they are afraid of getting sold behind closed doors]. Deliver me, o my Lord, from my friends; I can take care of my enemies. Never has this saying applied better than to Americans, now represented by Obama.”

It is a question everyone is asking, here as elsewhere: How is Obama going to handle the issue of the Middle East – powder keg of the world? As the weakest link in the chain, Lebanon is concerned, afraid of falling victim once again, to any bazaar [they are afraid of getting sold behind closed doors]. Because, to begin with, the new American president proposes opening a dialogue with the Iranians as well as the Syrians. This ordinarily results in haggling with just the veneer of attractive offers.
